The Story of Catching up with the Story

Have you ever heard the saying "I slept like a baby last night"?  Well there are two possible punchlines for that one.....
1. "With my butt up in the air"
2. "Up crying every hour"

Landon was the second one.

Monday night was kind of rough, not going to lie to you, Landon had a tough time acclimating to the new environs, and we had a tough time getting the timing of the feedings/pumpings down.  As a result, we didn't get much sleep on Monday night.  Neither did Amanda (sorry baby).

Landon only seems to want to do the boob for about 10 minutes or so.  He latches on, works it for about 10 minutes, then falls asleep right there on the boob.  So when Hillary takes him off because she needs to pump, Landon wakes up wanting more milk, just not out of its natural God-given boob container.  So Hillary was pumping, I was giving Landon the bottle, and neither of us got much sleep.

Tuesday morning, I took Amanda to school and went to the hospital to see Reagan while Hillary and Landon stayed home and hung out.

Remember how we were talking about Reagan being a fighter?  Well, when I got to the hospital on Tuesday, they had taken out the nose cannula, removed the mouth feeding tube and replaced it with a nose tube, taken him off the viagra, weaned him down to a morphine dose that should be finished by the time Hillary gets there today, and weaned him off all the other drugs.

Here's Reagan without the nose cannula.....

And, as soon as I got there the nurse told me, and I quote....."for the 11:45 feeding we are going to give him a bottle, do you want to do that?"  Um, yeah!

So I gave Reagan his first bottle of boob juice and he ate half of it.  At this rate of progress, he should be walking by Friday.  I can't describe to you what it was like holding my oldest son in my arms, feeding him.  Just eight days ago he was at CHLA on all those machines, and here we are now.  Awesome.

And here's Reagan with the nose feeding tube in......

And check out Reagan's new set-up, nice to see him without a million machines and tubes running into and out of him.  All he has now is a nose feeding tube, and the vitals monitor.....

I went home to swap out with Hillary so she could go to the hospital and give Reagan some boob.  He took to it much quicker than Landon did, not a full feeding on the boob, but a good start.

Landon and I had a good day, we hung out, watched ESPN, and went outside and took a walk to let Rudy do his business.  All in all a good day.

Last night was a little better for Landon (and us).  I watched the season premiere of Lost (FANTASTIC!) while Hillary and Landon napped, we went to bed at about 11-ish, and for the most part we only had to get up at about 1:30am, 4-ish, and 7-ish.  Getting there.

Hillary just left to go see Reagan, Landon and I are sitting here watching SportsCenter, I'm going to see Reagan then go get Amanda for soccer practice, then back here about 6-ish.

More updates later.
