The Story of Landon's Troubles

Landon is back in the hospital. I'm at Ventura County Medical Center right now, it's coming up on 3am. Hillary is at home with Reagan, hopefully sleeping.
We had a good night last night. We gave the boys a bath, fed them, and put them to bed about 11pm-ish and were able to get the best night of sleep since they were home, only getting up for feedings at 2 and 5. We had appointments with Dr. Coppa for Reagan's circumcision and for a check up on Landon's.

In the afternoon, I left so I could get Amanda so we could go to soccer practice.

Hillary had noticed that Landon sometimes looked quite pale and was a tad blueish around the mouth. When I got home I saw it too. It would come and go but only lasted for a little bit at a time. At around 9pm, I called Dr. Coppa to talk to her about, and after going over the specifics, she was concerned but thought it might be attributed to the fact that we had started supplementing his breast milk with formula and were giving him 3oz now which was more than than we were giving him when he was on breast milk alone. She wanted us to keep an eye on him and if it happened again to take him to the hospital.

Well, it wasn't more than 10 minutes after I got off the phone when he did it again. So here we are.

What is happening basically is, he stops breathing, an apnea, and turns ghostly pale except for around his mouth which turns blue. What was occuring only a few times was, now that we were at the hospital, happening all to regularly.

They aren't sure why, though right now they suspect either a viral infection or a bacterial infection. They won't know until they run more tests. They also suspect that they might not be apnea episodes, but rather seizures. His blood counts were low as well so he has a little anemia going on as well, which could be related to the infection.

So right now, I'm waiting for some test results and to feed him again at 5am.

In case you are wondering why I'm not at St. Johns, the boys pediatrician is on a different HMO plan then we were on so we transferred them when they left SJRMC. As it turns out, this new HMO plan is tied to VCMC for the NICU, and not SJRMC. So here I am.

I wanted to take a second to talk about the blog. Sorry the posts haven't been as frequent lately, it's tough to take the time to post when you are juggling twins. I know that a lot of people are now "invested" in the boys after following their travails, and for that Hillary and I will be eternally gratefully, and someday we can show the blog to the boys so they can appreciate not only what they went through, but the outpouring of love they received. Thank you all.

After a nice quiet Super Bowl Sunday with just the four of us (missing Amanda horribly) I had intended to update tonight with all the latest on midnight feedings, the boys appointment, and other tales of having the boys home. Maybe later.

More to follow, keep the prayers coming and thanks for reading.

PS: Congrats to Chris and Shanna on the Saints victory, I can't begin to imagine how happy you guys are.
