A quick update while I work on getting all of the pictures on-line.....
We had a good day today.
I got to run home at about 7am-ish this morning and take a shower, I needed it, hadn't showered since Tuesday morning, flew late Tuesday night, been at the hospital since 4am Wednesday. I was smelly.
I got back to the hospital at about 9-ish, and gave Hillary a shower, she loved it. Don't think I'm going to make any comments. It literally took us about an hour to get her all cleaned up. She's doing much better now, considering she had had a C-Section less than 48 hours prior. Just getting up out of bed and moving to the bathroom is a bit of a chore, so it was good to be able to see her move that far to the shower.
We headed down to the NICU to see the boys and got to spend about a solid hour with them.
Younger brother Landon had just been taken off the ventilator when we got there. They both went on sometime late on Wednesday night, so it had been a good 36 hours. Like I said in the earlier post, since the boys were 6+ weeks early, their lungs hadn't fully developed properly. The doctors had given them some surfactant to help strengthen the lungs, had them on oxygen to help them breathe, and then went to the ventilators when they weren't getting enough oxygen. So it was a good thing that they had taken Landon off the ventilator.
Older brother Reagan was still on the ventilator when we got there, but we got to watch him be taken off. Reagan was the first one (by 1 whole minute) born, but he is about an inch shorter and a good pound and a half lighter. We also happened to be there when Reagan took his first poop. Because they are in the incubators, and because they had been on the ventilators, they haven't had any food since they were born. They both have IV's hooked up and were getting liquids. Yesterday the on-call pediatrician put them on their first "food source", they were getting a bunch of minerals, vitamins, lipids, and other goodies through the IV. Because Reagan hadn't pooped yet he had a bunch of toxins built up inside him and was a little bit jaundiced so they have the super-anti-jaundice-heating-lamp (that's a technical term) shining on him.
The NICU nurses said that the next twelve hours are pretty important for them to be still as they get used to breathing without the ventilator, so we are going to limit our visits for a bit. As we were leaving the nurses put the boys on their sides to help them breathe better, I have pics, working on posting them now.
Hillary is taking a nap, I'm working on the computer, Reagan and Landon are NICU-ing, Amanda is at school and wishing she was here with her brothers, her dad, and her brothers-momma.
More to follow.
