The Story of Monday January 18th - Part II

I spent some more time in the NICC with Reagan.  (Here at CHLA they call it a NICC, not a NICU - Center vice Unit).  He is really responding well to the treatments.  He's not out of the woods yet, but he is definetely getting better.  They are going to do another blood draw at 4pm, so I'll go back in at 4:30 and check on him and spend a little more time with him.  If he's still improving, I'm headed back home, with a stop at St. Johns to see Landon.  It feels like forever since I've seen Landon, I can't wait.  Hillary says he's doing much better as well.

Hillary is at home now, her mom is taking care of her there, they are going to come down here tomorrow to see Reagan, while I spend some time at St. Johns with Landon.

Here's a picture of me and Reagan in the NICC

And here are a couple of close-ups of Reagan so you can see the ventilation tubes

Here are a couple of videos I uploaded, the first is Reagan on the high frequency oscillating ventilator, notice how his chest is moving, there is a lot of volume of air and nitric oxide being pumped into him.  We did get a good sign today, Reagan was trying to breathe on his own.  Thats good because it means he's a fighter and his body wants to do what it was designed to do, and it means that his lungs are improving.  However, they don't want him to do that just yet, they want the vent machine do do it's magic to keep working on improving his lungs.  So they upped his sedative a bit to prevent him from trying to breathe on his own.  All-in-all, it's a good sign.

Here's his vent video.....

They also gave him another dose of surfactant.  He responded really well to this, yet another good sign on his improving condition.  Here's the video.....

Well, that's all I have for now, I'm going to see Reagan in about an hour or so, and hopefully we get good news.  If so, I'm headed home to see Landon and Hillary.

Thanks for following along, more later.

Phil
